Thank you for nominating me for Premmie Hero Volunteer Award!
Recently I was very honored to be nominated for the Premmie Hero Volunteer Awards, to say I’m excited is an understatement! The Premmie Hero Volunteer Awards are an Australian first in recognising and celebrating the dedication of individual volunteers within the premmie community.
The awards were created as a way to pay tribute and thank those who volunteer their time in supporting families like ours after the birth of a premature baby. The amazing family at L’il Aussie Prems Foundation runs these awards and you can visit this link to view all the individual stories of the extraordinary people who give up their time to volunteer and support the families of premmie babies http://www.lilaussieprems.com.au/premmie-hero-volunteer-awards/
L’il Aussie Prems also do a lot of work in the premmie community and if you have a spare minute you should take the time to visit their website – http://www.lilaussieprems.com.au/
They have an upcoming annual event which aims to bring the premmie community together to celebrate our little ones and all that we do to support one another. For more information please visit this link – http://www.lilaussieprems.com.au/p-e-a-r-l/
Foundations like L’il Aussie Prems are made up of volunteers such as myself. I find it amazing that the ladies at the Foundation spend their time arranging awards to celebrate others yet they themselves should also be nominated for this award! It just shows you how humble and deserving they are of recognition.
For families such as mine it is foundations such as L’il Aussie Prems that helped us get through our time in NICU and Special Care. Knowing there was a community out there of people who could support and understand us was invaluable in our journey.
Being nominated is enough for me and I am thankful for those who took the time to fill out a nomination form. After viewing the stories of all the nominees I believe I have a lot of work to do in this little community of ours before I am deserving of an award of any kind! I’ve only been at this for about 6 months, there are those out there who have been serving premmie families for years. These are the people that inspire me to do what I do!
It is the simple things individuals do when you have a premature baby that make all the difference. Those who sew tiny clothes (because God knows even ‘premmie’ clothes are often too big for our little ones!), or volunteer to give cuddles to babies who’s parents cant get to the hospital every day. These are just small tasks that can make all the difference when your baby is in the hospital, so all of those out there who lend a hand should be celebrated!
Being part of this little community has shown me one thing for sure, there is still so much kindness in the world, and sometimes that’s all you need.
So I guess this little piece is about celebrating all of you out there helping US. You are amazing, keep doing what you’re doing! Because the smallest of gestures can make the most amazing change in someone’s day!
